Burton David Figler of Winthrop and formerly of Chelsea died on December 8, 2024.
Burton Figler is survived by his beloved wife, Clare Spector Figler and his two adoring daughters, Aviva Raquel Figler and her husband Douglas Olson and Elena Shana Figler and her partner James Colbert. He was the loving grandfather of Jacob Maxwell Buchholz and Aislyn Eileen Colbert and “bonus” grandchildren Adam, Jared, and Lauren Colbert.
Burton was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He attended the Chelsea schools and graduated from Chelsea Senior High School. He received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from MIT in Aeronautics and Astronautics and then an MBA from Northeastern University. Until his retirement, he worked primarily in the field of electro-optics at MIT, Sanders Associates, TechOps, Aerodyne Products Corporation, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, Loral and BAE Systems. Following his marriage to Clare Spector of San Antonio, Texas, Burton and his family resided in Winthrop.
Mr. Figler was a member of Temple Tifereth Israel of Winthrop. In addition, he was a member of the following organizations: American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI), B’nai B’rith International, World Jewish Congress, National Yiddish Book Center, American Association of Retired Person (AARP), American Diabetes Association, MIT Alumni Association, Northeastern University MBA Association, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), American Army Aviation Association (AAAA), Association of Old Crows (AOD), and Society of Photographic and Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
Services will be held at Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave, Chelsea on Wednesday, December 11 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at the New Temple Tifereth Israel of Winthrop Cemetery, 232 Fuller Street, Everett. Memorial observance will be observed after interment at Temple Tifereth Israel of Winthrop, 93 Veterans Road, Winthrop, MA until 4:00pm.
