CHICOPEE – George E. Manioudakis, 88, a longtime resident of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Gerakari, Rethymno, Crete, Greece on September 14, 1936, a beloved son of the late Evangelos and Despina (Antonovardake) Manioudakis. He was raised and educated in Greece and served in the Greek Army. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 and settled in Springfield, before moving to Chicopee in 1964, where he lived the remainder of his life. While he never earned a college degree, he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and he took courses in English and Spanish and even learned to speak Polish. He was the owner and operator of the Corner Store in Chicopee from 1978 to 2000. He was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield and was formerly a communicant of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee where he also served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) in Springfield. George enjoyed playing poker with his friends and family, and enjoyed reading, history, and long walks outdoors. Always adventurous and curious, he traveled to many places, including East Asia and the Middle East, and was especially fond of his trip to the Galapagos Islands in South America. Most of all, he was a hard working and devoted family man. He leaves his beloved wife, Constance (Kintgios) Manioudakis. They were married on June 21, 1964 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted sons, Angelo G. Manioudakis and his wife, Melani Cammett, of Boston, and Stephen G. Manioudakis and his wife, Kim, of Belchertown; his five cherished grandchildren, Alexandros, Lennie, Nikos, Evan, and Cooper Manioudakis; his dear sister, Calliope Hoffman of Longmeadow; his dear brother-in-law, Nicholas Kintgios and his wife, Yvonne, of Springfield; his dear sister-in-law, Efstathia Fisher and her husband, John, of Somers, CT; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members in the United States and Greece. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Constantine "Costa" Manioudakis; his dear sister, Vasileke “Bessie” Metzidakis and her husband, Harry "Bob", and his brother-in-law, Frank Hoffman. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His funeral will be held on Friday morning December 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. (Please meet directly at the Cathedral).
