Quinn, Marianne (nee Smith) AKA Mimi, 72, Of Dedham, born July 23, 1952, passed away at her home on December 6, 2024, after a courageous year long battle with cancer.
Born, and raised in West Caldwell, NJ to Joe and Helen Smith, and as they say, ‘you can take the girl out of Jersey but you can never take the Jersey out of the girl’. Her courage and grace at the end of her life was something special to witness and in the true spirit of her beloved mother.
Marianne left New Jersey after high school to attend Mount Ida College and majored in art, an innate skill no one in the Smith family possessed but refined over the years to a superior talent. Although not interested in commercial success she left behind paintings to be admired and cherished.
After graduating, while working at Boston College, Marianne met Jimmy Quinn - Marianne often said she “married her father”, and there were some similarities such as Irishness, punctuality, love of sports, integrity, and his preference for home-based living.
Marianne and Jimmy brought up two children, Ryan and Brittany. Marianne was proud of them both equally, Ryan due to his athletic prowess and deadpan sense of humor and Brittany due to her great singing voice and the force of her personality.
Marianne was not averse to an occasional cocktail and enjoyed yearly trips to the beaches of Cape Cod, Jersey Shore, Rhode Island and Anguilla. She belonged at the beach, it’s as simple as that and she felt most at peace in her beautiful garden.
Mimi always knew how to have a good time and the world is a better place for having her in it.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James F. Quinn Jr; her brother, Rick Smith, and his wife, Joan Smith, of San Francisco; her son, Ryan J. Quinn of Sudbury (predeceased by his wife, Ann Saunders Quinn); her daughter, Brittany Q. Iantosca, and her husband, Anthony Iantosca, of Walpole; and her four cherished grandchildren, Emily (10), CJ (8), Andrew (6) and Nora (4). Marianne also leaves behind many close friends, many of whom she considered family, Lesley Roe (and family) in Stonington, CT; Caryn Casey (predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack Casey) in Newburyport, MA; and Bonnie Lutze (and family) in Hull, MA.
The family will be hosting a private celebration of life in the new year.
