Obituary

THE VILLAGES, FL – Roger E. Marchand, 97, formerly of Webster, MA died Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at home in the presence of family. His wife of 54 years, Junice A. (Racicot) Marchand, died in 2013.

He leaves 3 sons, Blain H. Marchand of Sutton, MA, James H. Marchand of Putnam, CT, and Greg H. Marchand and his wife Laura of Webster, MA; 4 daughters, Elizabeth A. Marchand of Lewisburg, TN, Rebecca A. Turley and her husband Mark of Dennis, MA, Renee A. Tassone and her husband Christopher of North Adams, MA, and Carole A. Marchand of Moosup, CT; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Francis H. Marchand and Norman J. Marchand, both of Torrington, CT, by his sister Claire M. Bazinet of Webster, MA and by his son Michael H. Marchand of Canton, MA.

He was born on October 29, 1927 in Worcester and raised in Webster, the son of Hormidas J. and Leonie (Blain) Marchand and graduated from Bartlett High School and Cushing Academy and then attended Brown University. He played football and baseball at Bartlett and at Cushing.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and belonged to the Webster-Dudley American Legion post #184.

He owned and operated the Marchand Insurance Agency with his wife Junice, his son Gregory and daughter Carole. He and his wife retired in 1999 and relocated to Florida.

As a representative of Travelers Insurance, he held several industry awards including the Health Quality Award, the National Health Production Leader in 1973 and 1976, the Northeast Regional Health Production Leader for 5 years and the National Leaders Qualifier 4 times including honor guard status. He was also a charter member of Travelers study group and a producer council member for life and annuities.

When he lived in Webster, he was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He held a life membership in the Webster Lodge of Elks #1466, now the Auburn Lodge of Elks #2118.

For many years he enjoyed camping with family and friends. He also loved sports and most card games.

His funeral will be held Saturday, January 18, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street, Webster. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council performing military honors. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the funeral home, prior to the Mass.
