Dorothy was born in Korca, Albania, daughter of the late Costa and Evangjeli (Vakefli) Pallangury. In 1940, she and her mother emigrated to America through Ellis Island to join her father, who had arrived years earlier with his brother Naum in Worcester, to work and save enough money to send for his family. Her education started at Millbury Street School, learning a new language, and assimilating into American culture. She graduated from Commerce High School. In 1956, she became a United States Citizen.
Dorothy worked as a secretary/typist/transcriber for a few local insurance companies. Her favorite job was working for the City of Worcester in the Employment & Training Department. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church and sang in the church choir. She loved to sing and dance and travel with friends. Most importantly, she loved to spend time and holidays with her family, going on Sunday drives, going to the beach, and playing bingo with her sister. Aunty, our godmother, loved and adored all of her nieces and nephews with all of her heart.
