ALFRED- Laurence A. Wallace of Alfred, ME, died on December 4, 2024, at Gosnell House
Hospice in Scarborough following a one-week illness with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
Larry was born on September 17, 1947, in Stoneham, MA, to Leonard B. Wallace, Jr. and
Harriet (Berry) Wallace. He grew up in Melrose, MA, the youngest of 5 siblings in a happy and
busy family. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1966.
After serving in the Navy, he earned his electrician's license which happily led to a successful 50
year career as an industrial electrician and electronic technician. He was employed at several
small companies before Pratt and Whitney came to North Berwick, ME.
He enjoyed 28 years of employment there making many friends along the way. After taking an
early retirement, which did not work for him, he went to work in his retirement job at LAI in
Scarborough. This short-term job was so enjoyable that he stayed 12 years till his 72nd birthday.
He always said he never went to work, he went to play all day long.
He enjoyed summer vacations at Moosehead Lake, playing games on his computer, traveling
with either Marilyn or his brother Roy, ice fishing with his crew, a short trip to Foxwoods once in
a while, playing cards with his cribbage group, Becky and Mike, or anyone who would pick up a
deck of cards.
He is predeceased by his parents and one nephew.
Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Bloom) Wallace. His daughter Rebecca Bean
and husband Michael McVetty of Windham and his two daughters Chloe and Molly. He also
leaves siblings Leonard of OR, Roy of CA, Carolyn Colbert (Cedric) of MA, and Russell (Kay) of
Mexico and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many friends he has made over the
years.
Larry has donated his body to Tufts Medical School in Boston. Following their studies, he will be
buried at the Veteran's Cemetery in Springvale, ME. At his request, there will be no services.
We would like to thank Southern Maine Health Care, especially Dr. Seftos, for the excellent and
compassionate care he received during his short visit. Gosnell House Hospice treated him and
his family with great kindness and respect during his short stay there.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11
