Obituary

Philip James McCarty, 83, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, while in care of The Hospice Centre at the Bedford VA. Following a lengthy illness.

Born on August 2, 1941, Philip grew up in Swampscott, MA and graduated from Swampscott High. He served his country as an Air Force Mechanic, after his military service, he received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University and held several jobs before settling down with the US Post Office, ending his career as a mechanic there.

. Philip was a devoted husband to his late wife, Ann Abbott McCarty, and a loving father to his son, Peter McCarty and his wife Paula. He was also a stepfather to John Abbott and the late Alan Abbott. Philip was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzan McCarty, and his first wife, Angela McCarty. He leaves behind his grandchildren Katina Hunter and Jack Abbott.

An avid lover of boats, Philip spent countless hours at The Lynn Yacht Club, a place he and Ann cherished. His gift for restoring antique cars was more than just a pastime; it was a passion that he loved.

He was one of a kind. Much loved, he will live on in the memories of those he touched. Phil will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Lynn Yacht Club 86 Lynnway, Lynn MA on Saturday December 14th from 1pm to 4pm.
