Obituary

Albert S. Gizzarelli, 74, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 26th in Miriam Hospital, Providence. Born in Providence, a son of the late Albert and Louise (Argenti) Gizzarelli. He is survived by his loving family; his wife of 52 years Sharon A. (Turner) Gizzarelli; daughter Alissa L. Pecora and her husband Sylvester J. Pecora Jr.; and his son Albert S. Gizzarelli, Jr. and his wife Amy (Heaton) Gizzarelli. He was the proud “Grampy” of Sylvester J. Pecora III, Francesca L. Pecora and Albert S Gizzarelli III. He was brother to Marilyn A. Jackvony, Alberta Nota and the late Louise DiGiacomo along with being “Uncle” to many nieces and nephews.

Al graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and Providence College. He was the owner of his ongoing plumbing, heating, and building businesses and a former Smithfield plumbing inspector. While his focus was his family and the operation of his companies, he greatly enjoyed being with his friends, traveling, golfing, dancing and singing (when the mike was offered to him). He was a member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks, RI Building Association, Alpine Country Club, and the Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club.

Despite being quite the workaholic, Al sought to make time for his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Additionally, he generously sponsored many Smithfield Town Youth sports teams and events throughout his life. Because of his keen business sense and strong work ethic, he often assisted others and was called upon for his vast plumbing and construction knowledge. Though he enjoyed engaging in discussion of current events and subjects of a serious nature, he enjoyed joking around with those close to him. He often sought to make his family, friends, and business associates laugh, whether on the job or during other day-to-day activities. The Gizzarelli Family wishes to acknowledge their sincere appreciation for the dedication and care that was given to Al by the Lifespan/Brown University Cancer Institute and Miriam Hospital during his journey throughout this past year.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 10th at 11 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Burial private. Visitation respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, please feel welcome to make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
