Dr. Alfred J. Sotera, DMD, DDS, 84, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Boston Medical Center. He was born in Lawrence, MA and was a long time resident in Andover. He attended Merrimack college, Indiana University where he met his loving wife, Harvard dental school and Tufts school of dentistry. After his many years of schooling he opened his practice as a prosthodontist, beginning his practice in Lawrence, MA then relocating to Salem, NH where he worked for rest of his career. He was a professor at many dental schools which he was extremely very proud of. He taught at Harvard dental school, Tufts University of dental medicine and Forsyth school of dental medicine.
He was respected and admired by all of his students. While teaching and practicing dentistry he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his colleagues. He also enjoyed painting in his spare time. He was also a devoted member of St. Augustine parish in Andover, MA. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his loving and devoted family. He shared his many words of wisdom with his family, one of his favorite was, What is love? Conscious consideration for the well being of others.
He was a widower of Margaret A (Herron) Sotera, he was survived by his loving daughter, Janine and her husband, David Ainscow of Sarasota, FL, brother John Sotera of Nashua, NH, sister, MaryAnn Woodworth of Northampton, NH, three grandchildren: devoted, loving granddaughter: Brittany Berthel of Andover, MA and two grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas Leonard of Sarasota, FL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and uncles.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Burke-Magliozzi funeral home, 390 N Main St, Andover, MA. His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10 AM. All are welcome. Interment will be privately held.
