James Morgan Lyon of Franklin, Connecticut and Palm Bay, Florida passed away peacefully at home in Connecticut November 29, 2024, after battling Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. He was born October 17, 1954, in Sylvester, Georgia to Morgan Jackson Lyon and Jewel (Wilson) Lyon. He graduated from Worth County High School in Sylvester, Georgia and attended Thames River Technical College and New England Tech. He was a licensed electrical contractor in Connecticut and was also a Rhode Island Commercial fisherman. James worked as a high voltage electrician employed at the Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut until his retirement in 2015.
James married Robin Hewlitt May 26, 1984, at Harkness Chapel, New London, Connecticut. He is survived by his wife; his sons, James “Brad” Lyon of Cumberland, Rhode Island and David Lyon of Franklin, Connecticut. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred (Dianne) Lyon of Alapaha, Georgia, Athie Lyon of Ashburn, Georgia and Mary Lyon of Sumner, Georgia, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton, Georgia followed by burial at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton. Woyasz Funeral Home of Norwich, Connecticut also assisted the family with arrangements.
