HUDSON --- Candice “Candy” Locke Roux Goyette, 75, passed away on, Saturday, November 30, 2024. Although she had very recently been diagnosed with ALS, the cause of death was complications from COVID-19, but she will be remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived.
Candy was a vortex of love, swirling with energy and affection. She drew people together for gatherings large and small (although, often, the bigger the better). For Candy, family had a broad definition: friends of nieces, nephews, and cousins were always welcome, along with children of friends and friends of siblings and in-laws. Restaurant waitstaff, grocery clerks, and others who just floated into her world for more than a minute came away knowing her as a friendly soul.
Candy was born in Concord, NH, on July 13, 1949, to Samuel and Doris Locke. She was the middle child in the family, exactly six-and-a-half years between her older brother George and younger brother Gary. Despite their often-exasperating natures, Candy somehow remained very close to her siblings right to the end.
She graduated from Laconia High School in 1967 and took a degree in Education from Plymouth State University in 1971. Initially settling in Bedford, NH, Candy served as a Guidance Counselor in the Goffstown School District, primarily at Bartlett Elementary School until 2009. During this time, Candy made many friends and changed many lives.
After moving to Hudson and taking an early retirement, Candy started a new business born out of her talent for baking and creating delicious varieties of mixed nuts. Our Sister’s Nuts sold at many craft fairs and businesses throughout southern NH and to numerous private functions.
Candy loved laughing, playing games, watching sports (Bobby Orr was an early crush), listening to music, cats, and gardening. In short, she found delight around every corner. Her home was precious to her, and it was there that she welcomed everyone.
Candy leaves behind her devoted husband Dave Goyette of Hudson, NH, whom she married in 2012; sons Jeffrey Roux and his wife Rhiannon Gregory-Roux, of Austin, TX, and Jason Roux and his partner Kirsten Nicole, of Dunedin, FL; brothers George and Rose Locke, of Meredith, NH, and Gary and Jan Locke, of Merrimack, NH. Additionally, of course, Candy leaves a void in the hearts of her expansive extended family - many of whom helped celebrate her 75th birthday party in July.
There will be a celebration of Candy’s life in the spring of 2025. Please, no flowers.
