Obituary

Steven A. Borges, 70, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at home after a battle with the effects of esophageal cancer for 5 years. He was the companion of Deborah Charette.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Alfred and Delia (Vasconcellos) Borges, he had lived in Westport for most of his life. Steve graduated from Bishop Stang High School, he then attended Southeastern Massachusetts University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Rhode Island College, earning a Master of Social Work. Prior to retirement in 2019, his professional career included employment at New Bedford Center for Human Services, Department of Social Services, Rosewood Rest Home and Arbour Counseling Services.

He had a terrific sense of humor and would joke that he survived the cancer treatments because he had been rocketed here from the planet Krypton, like Superman. He was a huge Humphrey Bogart, Sammy Davis, Jr. (who Steve said could do it all), Frank Sinatra, Harry Chapin and Bob Dylan fan. Steve enjoyed creating in the kitchen even after his cancer surgery which left him unable to eat more than "two peanut butter crackers and I'm full." He had an insatiable thirst for American and Greek history. He was a fan of many sports, particularly boxing, soccer, hockey and football, and could relate statistics about players and games from years ago.

Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. George Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
