Obituary

Mr. Joseph S. Ianno, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Poirier) Ianno, passed away of a brief illness with his family at his bedside on Saturday, November 23, 2024. He was 91 years old.

Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, on May 24, 1933, he was the beloved son of the late Matteo and Marchiona (Oliveri) Ianno. Mr. Ianno worked as a machine operator at a Manufacturing plant for many years.

Joseph loved wildlife and nature and enjoyed fishing, cheering for the Red Sox, and most importantly spending time with his family.  Above all, Joseph was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Besides his beloved wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by his loving children; Christopher Ianno of Revere and Maria Ianno of North Grafton, step-daughter; Karen and her husband Phil O’Donnell of Medford, Kelly and husband Benny of New Hampshire, Gina of New Hampshire and cherished grandchildren; Molly, Brendan, Cheri, Michelle and Crystal, nieces Gloria Hicks of Chatham, Deborah Hicks-McGovern and her husband Tim McGovern of Newton, and great-nephews; Ivan McGovern of New Hampshire, Jackson McGovern, and his wife Tori and their son Charlie of New Hampshire, nephews Anthony Yanno of Norton, and Jim Dilk of Brentwood, California.  He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antoinette Ianno, Jennie Saccardo, Agatha Hicks, Sarah Bithoney, Guy Yanno, and Gino Ianno. Joseph was also the former husband of the late Grace A. Ianno.

His funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to his favorite charity, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
