LACONIA ---- Herbert C. Lee, 91, resident of Taylor Community, died on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Herb was born on August 26, 1933, the only child of Edward and Dorothy (White) Lee. He was raised in Norton and Beebe Plain, VT. Upon graduating from Derby Academy, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the destroyer USS Brownson. He attended Paul Smith’s College on the GI Bill, and received a degree in Forestry.
Herb, or Herbie, as family and friends called him, met his wife, Annabelle Gillis, at a dance in Montreal, Quebec, where she was
working as a nurse. Together they raised two children, Gregory and Jennifer. Herb was employed as a forestry technician with the U.S. Forest Service, living in the communities of Norway, ME, Bethel, ME, and Laconia, NH.
Herb was a passionate gardener, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. After retirement, Herb and Annabelle spent summers at their cottage on Prince Edward Island, Canada. They spent winters in the communities of Lake Placid and Summerfield, Florida.
Herb was predeceased by his wife Annabelle (Gillis) Lee. He is survived by a son Gregory Lee (Eileen), of East Waterboro, Maine, and their three children, Alanna Lee (Albin), Marjorie Lee Nobert (Ethan) and their daughter Ella, and Andrew Lee (fiancé Isabelle). Herb is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Morton (Robert), of Eliot, Maine, and their three children Samuel Morton (Emily), Ethan Morton (Brandi) and their two children Brady and Austin, and Liam Morton.
Per Herb’s request, there will be no services.
Burial will be held in the summer of 2025, in Belfast, PEI, Canada.
The family wishes to thank the Taylor Community for the excellent care provided to Herb from independent living through long term care.
