BELMONT ---- Arthur ’Butch’ Mooney, 76, of Dutile Shore Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Genesis Laconia Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Boston, MA, on November 21, 1947, Butch was the beloved son of Claude Samuelson and Gladys LaClaire.
Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing two tours during the Vietnam War. His bravery, dedication and unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers were a source of great pride throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, Butch carried his sense of duty and patriotism into his everyday life, inspiring those around him.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and swimming. He also had a passion for collecting sports memorabilia and coins. He was a dedicated football fan, especially of his New England Patriots.
Butch loved hosting family cookouts and proudly taking on the role of chef. His warm hospitality and delicious cooking brought his loved ones together for countless memorable gatherings. He also had a deep affection for his two cats, Smokey and Whisper, who were his constant companions.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nancy (DeHart) Mooney; his sons, Michael Mooney and wife Karen, and Andrew Simoneau and his significant other, Michelle; his daughter, Stacy Hutchinson, and her significant other, Chas; nine grandchildren: Kyrie Hutchinson, Katlyn Robie, Skyla Mooney, Kalissa Mooney, Dominic Santiago, Alexis Dorman, Tazz Simoneau, Eric Simoneau, and Dustin Simoneau; and seven great-grandchildren: Alyiah, Paisley, Octavia, Briella, Kason, Serenity, and Theadora.
Butch is also survived by his brothers, Samuel Samuelson and Ralph Samuelson; his sister, Grace Sanborn; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Walter Mooney, and his great-grandchildren Paige Medley and Maverick Simoneau.
In honor of Butch's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A Service with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 am, in the chapel at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1:00pm-4:00pm, at the Belknap Sportsman’s Club, located at 182 Lily Pond Road, Gilford, New Hampshire.
