Joanna (Moussas) Boukalis, 96, of Worcester a devoted and compassionate soul, passed away Tuesday, November 21st surrounded by her family and loved ones. Her husband, Basil Boukalis died in 1990. She leaves a son, Charles Boukalis of Worcester; two grandchildren, Joanna E. Boukalis and Stephanie E. Boukalis; many nephews and nieces including, Pam Kostas, Nikoletta Markopoulos, and Nikoletta Barounis. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn “Mary” Boukalis; two brothers, George and Konstantino; and four sisters, Theodora, Alexandra, Katerina, and Athanasia.
Born in Foloi, Greece, she immigrated to the United States in 1947, embracing a new life filled with purpose and dedication. She was the cherished daughter of Demitrios and Nikoletta (Alexandropoulos) Moussas.
Joanna was a long-time and active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, where her faith and commitment to her community shone brightly. She was a proud member of the church’s Ladies Philoptochos Society, dedicating her time and talents supporting those in need. Her generous spirit extended to St. Nicholas Romanian Church, where she delighted in cooking, baking, and assisting with countless events and activities.
Known for her kind heart and unwavering desire to help others, Joanna touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Whether through her delicious meals, her warm smile, or her quiet acts of service, she left a lasting legacy of love and generosity.
Joanna will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and her beloved church communities. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation is Tuesday, November 26th from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial is in Hope Cemetery. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
