Maryellen (McCorry) Nixon in Norwood, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on November 20, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Paul Nixon. Devoted mother of Linda Menyo and her husband David of West Roxbury, Stephen Nixon of Franklin, and Robert Nixon of Needham. Dear sister of the late Joseph, James, and Ann McCorry. Loving grandmother of Jennifer Canavan and her husband Rick of ME, Ashley Badertscher and her husband Paul of Dover, David Scott Menyo and his longtime partner Emma Gavrilles of Medfield, Megan Massey and her husband Hunter of NH, and Bridget Colby of ME. Great grandmother of Dustin and Leo Badertscher, and Serena Massey. She was also the proud Godmother to Patricia Anagnos, Sandy Cormier, Wally Keefe and Kathleen McCorry.
Maryellen was born in Mission Hill on September 14, 1935 to James and Bridget (Rodgers) McCorry. She met the love of her life, Paul, while he was stationed here. They were married on St. Patrick’s Day 1955, and then briefly relocated to Paul’s hometown of Wayne Michigan before returning back to Boston to start building their family. Over the course of their 62 years together, they lived in Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and West Roxbury.
Though Boston was always home, their home away from home was the Sebago Lakes Region in Maine. In the mid 80’s they bought land in Bridgton and built their dream cottage. Two of their children ultimately settled on adjacent properties, which led to years of happy family memories.
Maryellen cherished all of her family and friends. In addition to being a devoted daughter, sister, auntie, wife and mother, she was also a dear friend. She had a loving friendship with Liz Barnes of Peabody for many years, as well as the Tucker family, who were also from Mission Hill. Maryellen and twins Barbara and Mary Tucker shared a sisterly bond for over seventy years.
