SALVO, Anna Jane (Lenehan), age 90, of Walpole, formerly of Needham and Naples, FL, passed away at her home on November 22, 2024 surrounded by her devoted family. Ann was known and loved for her kindness and generosity, as well as her wry sense of humor and sharp wit.
Born in New York City to Annie (Kelly) and George T. Lenehan, Ann graduated from Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester. She then entered nursing school at Boston City Hospital, where she was valedictorian of the Class of 1956. It was in nursing school that she met her future husband, pediatrician Christopher J. Salvo. Ann and Chris raised their family in Needham, where they resided for more than 35 years. As the allergy nurse at Needham Pediatrics. “Allergy Annie” was the self-proclaimed “Fastest Needle in the East.” She fostered a warm rapport with patients and colleagues alike and was beloved by countless families who trusted her care.
Ann had many interests and was a longtime member and Past President of the Kalmia Garden Club. She loved traveling with Chris, playing tennis, bridge, Mahjong, and golf, and socializing with their many friends. Her sharp intellect also made her a valued member of any trivia team. Ann was an avid reader, and after her vision worsened, the Talking Book Library allowed her to continue to enjoy and share her love of books and reading.
Above all, Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Christopher J. Salvo; her five children, Mary Ellen Salvo Hickey, Elizabeth Salvo Heusel, Jennifer Salvo, Victor Salvo, and Christopher Salvo; grandchildren, Friday Colwell, Casey McBreen, Mary McBreen, and Jackson Hickey; brother-in-law Carmine Salvo and her niece, Jolie Hellings. Ann is predeceased by her daughter, Carol, her parents, Annie K. and George Lenehan, and her brother, George Lenehan. Her warmth, selflessness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home at 1305 Highland Ave., Needham, MA on Tuesday, November 26th, from 4 to 7 PM. Funeral service and interment private.
