Obituary

09/30/1938-11/5/2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rosalie S. Cobos on November 5, 2024; a beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma at age 86 after a long illness. Rosalie passed peacefully while surrounded by loved ones, including her beloved husband of 67 years.
Rosalie was born in Santa Paula, CA (Limoneira) on September 30, 1938 to Leonardo Soto and Jennie (Ortiz) Soto. Rosalie's family soon moved to Ventura and she would become a lifelong resident. She grew up in the Tortilla Flats until they moved to the Historic Simpsons tract. Rosalie attended Sheridan Way elementary school and was a witness to the historic snowstorm of 1949 when it snowed on the Ventura Pier.
Rosalie's love story with our dad, Edward (Eddie) Cobos, began while they both attended Cabrillo Jr. High School in Ventura, at the age of 13. Their special love continued through high school and graduation in 1956 from Ventura Senior High School. Mom was always there to support our dad for his passion of many sports. They later married at the San Buenaventura Mission on November 9, 1957.
Rosalie gained clerical experience at the Ventura County Stationery Store in Downtown Ventura during her high school years, and later went to work for the County of Ventura Welfare Department and Children Protective Services.
At the time, she was the only bilingual caseworker and would travel throughout the county each day. She retired after 28 years. In retirement, Rosalie enjoyed her travels with Eddie to Las Vegas, Maui and Cabo San Lucas.
She also spent much time caregiving for her mother, Jennie Ortiz-Lorenzana.
Rosalie is survived by her childhood sweetheart, Edward (Eddie) Cobos of Ventura; Daughters Lisa Van Noy (Gene) of Ventura, Joanne Estrada (Michael) of Stockton; grandchildren Mark Thompson Jr. of San Diego, Amanda Van Noy of Ventura, Matthew Martinez of Ventura, Andrew Martinez of Stockton; great-grandchildren Xavier III, Emiliana, Kali, Xabali, Xion Ramirez and Natali Martinez all of Ventura. Rosalie is also survived by her brother Leonard Soto of Ventura.
Rosalie is preceded in death by her parents, Leonardo Soto and Jennie Ortiz- Lorenzana; and step-father Richard Lorenzana.
Rosalie's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Tina Rowe and Toni Dart, owners at Rowe Residence of Ventura as well as their loving and compassionate staff since January 2018. Thank you to Mission Hospice as well.
Forever in our hearts, until we meet again, we love you.
