Winifred P. Walsh passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Galway, Ireland, daughter of Margaret and Thomas Raftery. Around 1960 she moved to the United States and shortly after became a caretake for a family of 5 in Lynn. She met her husband Peter Walsh in America, they married, and they settled in Massachusetts.
She leaves behind 3 siblings in Ireland: Walter, Lily, and Thomas, her 5 grown children: Joann, Dorothy, Kenneth, Desmond and James. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Erin, Jerod, Tess, Caitlynn, William and Mathew.
Winifred “Una” was a devoted wife, sister, friend, and mother. She welcomed friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews into her home with love, a cup of tea, and brown bread. She was always a constant loving mother and a selfless provider to her husband and children. She was dedicated to her family, friends and those who entered her home. She treated everyone like family. She always put others first.
On Saturday, December 14, 2024, relatives and friends are invited to meet for a Funeral Mass at the Saint Bridget’s Church in Abington, MA, scheduled for 10:30AM. A procession will follow where both Peter Walsh and Winifred Walsh will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington, the veterans lot.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Alzheimer’s Association, Old Colony Elder’s Services/volunteer fund, Accent Hospice or a charitable organization of your choice.
