Hernberg, Barbara P. (Smith) of Wellesley, formerly of Newton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, Barbara passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born in Boston and raised in Newton to the late Barbara and Arthur Smith. She attended Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart and Marymount Manhattan College while ultimately receiving her Bachelor's Degree from Framingham State College.
Barbara was married to the late Frank Hernberg for 50 years, resided in Wellesley for 70 years and was a long time parishioner of St Paul's Church. In addition to raising her family Barbara was a dedicated employee at Wellesley College serving as a Director at the Woman's Research Center. Over the course of her lifetime Barbara enjoyed numerous activities such as spending summers on Craigville Beach, golfing at Nehoiden Golf Club, and traveling the world. However, her favorite activity by far was spending time with her family and being the doting grandmother.
Barbara is survived by her sister Lee Connors, her children, Michael and his wife Kathy of Wheaton, IL., Phil and his wife Maureen of Needham, her 8 grandchildren, Peter, Katherine, Danny, Mark, Andrew, Emily, Elizabeth, John, as well as her 5 great grandchildren, Emma, Johnny, Jacob, Daniel, and Darcy.
Visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Monday, November 25, from 9-10:30am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd Community Care, 160 Wells Ave. Newton, MA 02459.
