Halligan, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Lennon), of Harwich Port, passed away November 19, 2024, at the age of 80 in the peaceful setting of the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, MA. She was a beloved friend to many and was known for her love of cooking. Originally from Jamaica Plain, Jackie was gifted with a quintessential Boston accent, which never faded.
Jackie was a devoted wife to her late husband Joseph “Joe” Halligan. She was a loving mother to Megan O’Neill (Halligan) and to her son-in-law Seamus O’Neill and a wonderful “Nana” to Áine O’Neill. She was a devoted daughter to the late Arthur Lennon and Margaret Lennon (Ryan), and grandniece of John L. Sullivan. Jackie leaves behind several cousins in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She loved her family without hesitation.
A graduate of home economics from Framingham State, there Jackie expanded her love of cooking while also finding her forever friends, Doreen and Martha. She was a long-time employee of Boston Gas (Keyspan, National Grid), for over 35 years. There, she made numerous friends, including her dear friend, Annie.
Those who knew Jackie knew her for her love of cooking and for the amazing meals she created, often with ease and without recipes. Food was her love language and dinner was her favorite time of day. When family visited, they would often spend hours on the enclosed patio, enjoying delicious food and beverages, while sharing favorite memories as Frank Sinatra music played in the background. Jackie often noted how dinner time was when she missed Joe the most.
After Joe’s passing, Jackie found a new community of friends in Harwich Port. She volunteered at the Family Pantry of Cape Cod and the Second Glance Thrift Boutique in Harwich. Jackie adored her 2G (2nd Glance) girlfriends and volunteering provided endless hours of conversation and enjoyment. Life in Harwich Port was so fulfilling for Jackie as the company she kept could not be any kinder or more generous with their love. Jackie was well-known in her neighborhood as she was a regular sight, walking her dog, Bubbles, on their multiple daily walks.
A celebration of life will be planned for spring of 2025 on Cape Cod, near Jackie’s hometown of Harwich Port.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family Pantry of Cape Cod as well as Old Colony Hospice.
