Joseph P. DeVito, age 71, of Hudson, FL, formerly of Medford, MA, passed away peacefully at home on October 29th, 2024. He was the cherished son of the late Peter and Angela (Marotta) DeVito of Medford, along with his late mother, Jeannie (Consolo) and Anthony Spinale of Saugus
Joseph attended Medford High School, where he formed lasting friendships. After leaving school, Joseph started a singing career with a group called “Breakaway.” Their success as a group took them from Boston all the way to Las Vegas. This was only one of Joe’s passions. While singing on weekends, Joseph also worked at the produce market with his grandfather and brother Peter. Weekend days you could always find him selling fruits and vegetables down on Blackstone Street in Boston. Joseph left the market while in his 30s to pursue a career in selling furniture. Joseph was very successful at this and soon became one of the top sales managers for a furniture liquidation company. Upon retirement, Joe enjoyed playing golf, pool, collecting coins, and driving his cars.
Joe was devoted to his lifetime companion, Julie Rausch and daddy to his fur babies, Scoochie and Maizy, whom he adored. He was brother to the late Peter DeVito of Nahant, Debbie Newman and her husband Scott of Melrose, Louis DeVito and his wife Mary Ann of Tewksbury, Lisa Spada and her husband John of Wilmington, and John DeVito and his wife Julie of Stoneham. Joe is survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass celebrated at Saint Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, on Wednesday, December 4th at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to Salem Animal Rescue, 4 Sarl Dr., Salem, NH 03079.
