MEREDITH ---- Susan “Susu” Smith Greene, 81, of Briarcrest Estates, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Forestview Manor in Meredith, NH.
Susu was born on August 5, 1943, in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of the late Traver Clinton Smith, Sr., and Helen Lucenia (Odell) Smith. Susu graduated from Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA and Garland Junior College, in Boston, MA. She grew up spending her summers at her grandfather’s ranch in Montana wrangling cattle with her horse Misty. Susu loved animals, dancing and music.
Susu worked as a trader on the Boston Stock Exchange and later became an administrative assistant to a stockbroker. She married Gardiner G. Greene on June 16, 1990, and relocated to New Hampshire, where she continued her career.
Susu is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Gardiner G. Greene, of Laconia, NH; sons Robert R. Finlay, of White Salmon, WA, and Stuart A. Finlay, Jr. and his wife Amy, of Boynton Beach, FL; brothers Traver Clinton Smith and his wife Elizabeth, of Lexington, MA, and Theodore H. Smith, of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Audrey Finlay of Lake Oswego, OR and Laurel Finlay of White Salmon, WA; niece Anne Stewart Odell Smith; and nephew Traver Clinton Smith III. In addition to her parents, Susu is predeceased by her first husband Stuart A. Finlay, Sr., her stepmother Mary Mahony Smith, her stepson Gardiner G. Greene III, and her beloved dog Tasha.
As per Susu’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
The family wishes to specially thank all the loving care provided by the Caregivers at Forestview Manor over the past three and a half years.
A Graveside Service will be held in the Spring of 2025 at Center Cemetery, Lyman, NH at the convenience of the family.
