Edward J. O'Hara, Jr., 82, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 18, 2024 with his wife and family by his side. He was the husband of Evelyn (Silvia) O'Hara, to whom he was married for 60 years.
Mr. O'Hara was born in Fall River, son of the late Edward J. O'Hara, Sr. and the late Jennie (Pontes) Forgette. He graduated from Durfee High School in 1960 and joined the Armed Services, the U.S. Air Force the same year. In the service he was a court reporter specialist having graduated from the Newport Naval Justice School. Ed then went to work at the Post Office in Fall River as a letter carrier and retired after 30 years of service. A proud NALC union member, he held the office of Shop Steward for 16 years and Treasurer for 12 years.
As a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Ed and Evelyn were involved in the Marriage Encounter Program, taught Catechism and held the office of President of the Couple's Club.
As a member of the American Legion, Post 145 for 30 years he held the office of Commander for one and a half years and Treasurer for four years.
Ed and Evelyn enjoyed camping and cruising.
The family is appreciative and grateful for the services of Southcoast V.N.A., Fairhaven.
Survivors along with his wife include his son Kevin O'Hara and companion Jennifer Garth, and 2 grandchildren Logan E. O'Hara and Ariana P. O'Hara.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Monday from 10-11 A.M., prior to the service.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
