Eugenia Janice (Pontes) Nickerson, 86, of Little Compton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Warren B. Nickerson, Sr.
Janice was the daughter of the late Antone R. and Mary E. (Cotta) Pontes, Sr., a lifelong resident of Little Compton, graduating from the Josephine F. Wilbur School in 1956. She was a lifelong animal lover, gardener, jewelry maker, quilter, knitter and most well known for her hand-made glass Christmas ornaments. Janice donated hundreds of ornaments and knitted treasures to the Little Compton Tree Spree for over twenty years. Her thoughtful and handmade gifts for family and friends will be cherished forever.
Survivors include her children: Warren B. Nickerson, Jr., Allen D. Nickerson and his wife Maria T., Donna M. Nickerson, David A. Nickerson and his husband Edward A. Helger and Michael E. Nickerson all of Little Compton; grandchildren: Amanda Nickerson Toste her husband Jeremy A. Toste, Krystal L. Nickerson, Allen Nickerson, Jr., Allison Nickerson and Jenna Nickerson; a great-grandson: Jackson and her beloved dog Maggie.
She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Antone R. and Gilbert R. Pontes.
A memorial mass to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Little Compton.
Calling hours Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home from 4-7 P.M.
Interment in Our lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
