Michael G. Stephenson, 82, passed peacefully in his sleep on November 18, 2024.
Born in Formby, England and eventually immigrating to the United States in his late teens. Michael, in time, moved to South Georgia to work for the Georgia Department of Agriculture at the University of Georgia Extension Campus in Tifton, GA. Michael is known for his quick wit, love of sailing, love of British racing cars, infectious laugh, kindness, compassion, and love of all animals.
Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Lucas Stephenson; his daughter Gillian Stephenson James; son-in-law, Justin James, both of Brinson, GA; sister-in-law, Martha L. Bryan; grandchildren, William Bradford (Alexis Corbin) of Ashburn, Michael Bradford (Chelcie Bradford) of Sylvester, GA; Emma Bradford of Brinson, GA and Elye Bradford of Brinson, GA. Michael Stephenson also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, Nolan Bradford, Hazel Bradford and Saylor Bradford. Mr. Stephenson leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, including Bonnie Hooten (Norm Hooten) and Ben Bryan of Tifton, GA. Michael is also survived by a dear family friend, Steve LaHue.
Michael is preceded in death by his father and mother, Gordon and Alice Stephenson, both of Formby, England and his beloved black lab dog named Al.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Tift Animal Rescue, 2207 Belmont Avenue, Tifton, GA in Mr. Stephenson’s name. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
