LONDONDERRY --- It is with deep sadness that, after a period of declining health, George Alexander Gray, Jr., 79, formerly of Laconia, New Hampshire, has taken his final breaths. He passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2024, while at
Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. George was surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born on June 21, 1945, in South Boston, Massachusetts, to George Sr., and Alice Gray. George was a Southie through and through. As a child, he had a bit of a flare for the dramatics performing tap dancing recitals while donned in a top hat and bow tie. And as many city kids did, he spent a lot of time in the streets playing stick ball. While in grammar school, he and his family relocated to Hanson, MA. He graduated from Whitman-Hanson High School, class of 1963. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves.
George raised his four children with his then wife, Emmy.
George owned and operated Gray’s Furniture Restoration in Scituate, MA, and then Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, for many years. Eventually, he opened Imperial Millwork of New Hampshire, Inc., where he spent the remainder of his career before retiring early due to health issues.
In his spare time, George enjoyed reading books and watching classic boxing matches on his iPad. He loved music and was proud of his music collection. George also enjoyed playing cribbage and a nice, hot cup of coffee.
George was predeceased by his parents, George and Alice (Lima) Gray.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years Sandra (Bowen) Gray of Laconia, NH. He is also survived by his brother David and wife Mary Gray, of Marston Mills, MA; daughter, Wendi Henderson, her husband Jim and their children Bailey, Chloe, Jakob, and Edson of Scituate, MA; son Matt Gray, his wife Stefanie, and their daughter Lucy of Brookline, NH; daughter Leslie Fisher and her husband Jason, of Laconia, NH; son Geoff Gray, his wife Catrina, and their daughters Samantha and Sydney Gray, of Laconia NH; granddaughter Ashley, her husband, Paul, and their daughter Gracyn Casillo, of Bethel, CT; grandson Cody, his wife, Sophia, and their daughters Quinn and Kennedy Adamson, of Scituate, MA; grandson Troy and his wife Jac Gray, of Coleville, UT; granddaughter Kirsten, her husband, Devin and their daughter, Rory DeCormier, all of Alexandria, NH; and granddaughter Marley Henschen, of Washington, D.C.
There will be a Graveside Service held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:30am at Smith Meetinghouse Cemetery in Gilmanton, NH.
Immediately following, please join the family for some nachos, a drink, and to share a memory at Hector's restaurant in Laconia, where George and his wife Sandy loved to go.
