Joanne M. (Correira) Szala, 70, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of her loving husband Scott E. Szala whom she also loved dearly.
Mrs. Szala was born in Fall River, daughter of the late Joseph T. and Mary V. (Arruda) Correira and had been a lifelong resident of Westport. Prior to retirement, she worked for 27 years as a lead substance abuse counselor at SSTAR, Fall River and through her work there, was known to have saved many lives in getting people on the journey to recovery. She was talented at crafting and could truly create anything. She loved the ocean and traveling to anywhere there was sunshine and beach. She was an active member of the Holy Ghost Club, Westport and always loved to march in the parade and attend the
feast. She loved Christmas and all that came with it. Her biggest love was her children and grandchildren. She supported and loved us all there is nothing she wouldn't do for any of us. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Survivors along with her loving husband include her children: Jonathan Cadieux and his wife Cheri of Dartmouth, Mindi Bennivedse and her husband Mark of Westport, Matthew Cadieux and his wife Nicole of Westport; a brother: Joseph A. Correira of Port Charlotte, FL; a sister: Lorianne Nunes of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Destiny, Faith, Sophia and Riley Belle who is the light of her eye, her ray of sunshine and her happy place; along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home at 6:00 P.M.
