Marsha Elaine (Olive) Ward, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 82. Born in Boston on August 12, 1942, Marsha was raised in Avon, MA, where she graduated from Avon High School and later earned her degree from Fischer Junior College.
Marsha dedicated her life to her family and her community. A devoted homemaker, she raised her family in Brockton, MA, and was an active volunteer within the Brockton school system, tirelessly advocating for students with special needs. Her commitment to service extended into her role at the Pentecost United Methodist Church in Brockton, where she volunteered in the food pantry and served as the church’s secretary. Marsha also found a deep joy in music, performing and traveling as a member of the Jubilate Chorale.
She was known for her warmth and her incredible ability to connect with everyone around her. A strong, outgoing woman, Marsha was thoughtful in all things—she never forgot a birthday card and filled her home with the warmth of her love. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she delighted in family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and love. Marsha and her husband of 58 years retired to Barnstable, MA, where they enjoyed the coastal beauty and continued to build memories together. After his passing, she moved to Bridgewater, where she continued to embrace life with her characteristic strength and grace.
Marsha is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Richard Olive Sr.; her husband David Ward Sr.; and her daughter Brenda Jean Ward. She is survived by her sons, David Ward, Jr. and his wife Laura of Middleboro and Michael Ward and his wife Jennifer of Grafton, MA; her sister, Dorothy Howe and her husband Everett of Scituate, MA; and her brother, Richard Olive, and his wife Judy of Seekonk, MA. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Erin, Parker, Ryan, and Alexia, and her great-granddaughter, Penelope, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Route 123), Brockton, on Thursday, November 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Avon Baptist Church, 119 N. Main Street, Avon, Friday, November 22, at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
