BRISTOL ---- Marilyn Alice Cox, 88, of Walker Drive, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH, after a brief illness.
Marilyn was born on December 20, 1935, in Dracut, MA, the daughter of the late George Garside and Alice (Bolton) Garside.
Marilyn began her professional journey teaching 3rd and 4th graders in Dracut. After taking some time off to focus on raising her three children, she returned to the workforce at Wang, where she worked in accounts receivables as a collector. She made her career retirement at US Filter at the age of 72.
An avid traveler, Marilyn explored eight countries across Europe, vacationed in Hawaii five times, and enjoyed numerous trips to Cancun and various Caribbean islands with her family. She had a particular fondness for cruises, often bringing along one of her grandchildren to share the experience.
Having enjoyed a part-time residence in Newfound Lake since 1989, she decided to make it her permanent home with her daughter Elaine and husband Robert and has been thriving ever since. She formed wonderful friendships and enjoyed the relaxed lifestyle that comes with lake living, often visiting the Senior Center for lunch and dining out at local restaurants. At home, she excelled in putting together 1000-piece puzzles and knitting cozy blankets, hats and festive Christmas stockings for her family. She was an avid swimmer and there was nothing better to her than a steamed lobster. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and laid-back nature.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Elaine White and her husband Robert; her sons William Cox and wife Christine and Peter Cox and his wife Beth; sister Elaine Shepard and husband Ernest; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a circle of cherished friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 am, at the Bristol United Church of Christ, 15 Church Street, Bristol, NH.
