CHARLTON-Hilding S. “Decker” Nordstrom, 82, died peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital on Aug. 2.
He was the son of the late Carl J. and Edith C. (Westlund) Nordstrom. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ruth (Hultgren) Nordstrom; a son, David B. and his wife Nancy Nordstrom; a daughter, Carol and her husband William all of Charlton and a granddaughter, Kristen Morrissey of Worcester. He was predeceased by by his grandson, Matthew Morrissey. Decker also leaves his brothers, Helge and his wife Helen of Shrewsbury, Robert and his wife Alice of Millbury, Carl and his wife Carol of Charlton; his sisters, Esther Thompson of Shrewsbury, Hilda and her husband Richard Peloquin, Alice Nordstron, Ethel and her husband, Richard Swedberg all of Worcester.
He attended Worcester Public Schools and served in WW II under Gen. Patton in his 3rd Army. Decker saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He worked at the former Anderson Corporation in Worcester for 47 years. He was a 3rd Degree Mason and was a longtime member of the Worcester Surfcasting Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish for striped bass in the Cape Cod Canal. He also enjoyed collecting postcards and stamps.
