Obituary

LOWELL—John W. Kelleher, a retired electrician and longtime resident of Lowell, died Wednesday August 2nd, at his home. He was the husband of Mary R. (Mangan) Kelleher, with whom he celebrated their 63rd anniversary on April 1st.

He was born in Stoneham, on September 6, 1919, a son of the late William P. and Mary (Murphy) Kelleher, and was educated in the Lowell Public Schools and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1936.

Mr. Kelleher served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., Local #588 and Local #103. He served as Financial Secretary of Local #588 for many years and was a representative for the Greater Lowell Building Trades Committee.

Surviving him besides his wife are sons: J.W. Kelleher, II, of Lowell; Thomas P. Kelleher, D.M.D., and his wife Virginia, of Portsmouth, NH; Jeffrey R. Kelleher, and his wife Kathleen, of Thompson, CT; a daughter: Joyce M. Glavin, of Billerica; a daughter-in-law: Joanne Kelleher, of Lowell; two sisters: Dorothy Markee, and her husband, Ralph, of North Andover; and Bernadette Drescher, of Lowell; two sisters-in-law: Helen T. Brooks, and Rita V. Kelleher, both of Lowell; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son: James J. Kelleher, sisters: Margaret Hoyt, Mary Sprague, Ruth Neylon, Catherine Connor, and brothers: William Kelleher, Jr., and Charles Kelleher.

It being his desire, all services will be private at the convenience of the family. Should an expression of sympathy be desired, the family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.
