GREENE- Mary Lou Spencer, aged 92, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024 in Scarborough, Maine after a brief illness. Born on December 3, 1931, in Artesia, New Mexico, Mary spent her formative years on a large ranch in Artesia. After the death of her father when she was a child, she moved with her mother and twin sister to Odessa Texas where she graduated from Odessa High School. After graduation, she embarked on a career as a hair stylist that would bring her to San Diego, California where she met and married her husband, Frank (Bob) Spencer. They had three children and ultimately moved the family to Frank’s hometown Sabattus, Maine. Mary Lou decided to make a career change later in her life and became a Health Unit Coordinator in the Cardiac Care Unit at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston until retiring.
Mary was known for her kind and gentle nature, complemented by a sweet sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her. She was a devout member of the Sabattus Baptist Church, where she found great comfort and community.
Her artistic talents were renowned, particularly her award-winning paintings of Maine scenes and wildlife. Mary also cherished the time spent playing Bingo and cards with her friends at The Meadows Senior Center in Greene, Maine.
She is survived by her loving family, including her children, Debra Liptrap and husband Mark of Spokane, Washington, David Spencer and wife Lisa of Buxton, Steven Spencer and wife J.Amanda of Sabattus; grandchildren, Jason Spencer and his wife Tricia of Sabattus, Christian Spencer of Buxton, Dawson Spencer of Falmouth, Caroline Spencer of Falmouth, Elizabeth Pinette and her husband Craig of Sabattus, Alex Tardy and his wife Iciar Herrero Montanes of Arlington, Virginia, Bella Tardy of New Haven, Connecticut; great-grandchildren, Haiden Spencer, Braelynn Pinette and Mckenzie Pinette, Evelyn Spencer and Alexis Spencer of Sabattus. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank Spencer, her parents Arthur Kaiser and Birdie Pederson, stepfather, AW Goodrich, her sister Margaret Palone, and her grandson Justin Spencer.
A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sabattus at 11:00 AM on November 23, 2024, with a lunch gathering to follow at the Sabattus American Legion Hall. Those who knew and loved Mary are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
