Alton R. "Al" Hanscom, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Massachusetts General Hospital following complications from a double lung transplant. He was 61 years of age.
Al was born in Boston on July 15, 1963, a son of the late Alton E. Hanscom and Edna C. (Auch) Hanscom. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system. Al worked for the City of Boston as a Foreman in the Parks & Recreation Department for the last 10 years until his health prevented him from working. Prior to working for the City of Boston, Al worked for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority as a toll collector.
Family was paramount in Al's life, and he was always concerned with his children and grandchildren and took great pride and enjoyment in the moments he shared with each one of them.
Al is the beloved husband of 3 years to Janet McLaughlin. He is the devoted father of A.J. Hanscom, Shayla Hanscom, the late Mark M. Hanscom and also survived by his children's mother Diane Wrenn. He is the loving Papa to Aidan, Mark, Sean, Alayius and Asyius. He is the beloved brother of Gene Lawrence, Joan Godding, Liz Hanscom and the late Judy Lawrence, James Lawrence and Michael Hanscom. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
RELATIVES AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND AL'S VISITING HOURS ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 20, 2024, from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. FOLLOWED BY HIS FUNERAL SERVICE AT 11 A.M. IN THE CARR FUNERAL HOME, 220 BUNKER HILL ST. CHARLESTOWN. HIS BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE AT HOLY CROSS CEMETERY IN MALDEN.
