Obituary

Charlton: Richard A. Brandt, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024 in the Overlook Masonic Health Center. He leaves a son Jeffrey Brandt and his wife Lauren of Falmouth; and a daughter Wendy Brandt and her husband Willem of Boston. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary “Geri” Brandt.

Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late Warren and Kathleen (Laycock) Brandt. He graduated from High School and proudly served his country in the US Army, where he was in the military police. He worked at the former Norton Company for many years and owned a number of taxi cabs with Arrow Cab of Worcester before starting his own business- Worcester Limousine. He was a history buff and proud New Englander, and, while driving people in his limos, he enjoyed giving them a history lesson of the Boston and Worcester area.

Richard was an auxiliary Worcester police officer, had a great sense of humor and sported a handlebar mustache for most of his life. He owned rental properties for a good portion of his life, traveled throughout Europe with his wife and was a member of Al’s pals Honda Goldwing motorcycle group. He was a welder, a trade that he learned from his father Warren.

In addition, he loved to summer in Cape Cod and was a snowbird who enjoyed his winters in South Palm Beach. He loved to volunteer his time at the EcoTarium (The New England Science Museum), and was particularly drawn to the ocean exhibit there. He spent a lot of time in Woods Hole at the oceanographic Institute and New England Coast Guard. He was great with children and frequently put his mechanical know how to use maintaining the explorer express train experience at the New England science Museum, as well as dressing up and playing Santa Claus during the holiday season.

According to Richard’s wishes, there will be no services. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, of which he always held dear.
