Obituary

Edward Delmer Sears, II, 73, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 5 at his home in the Highlands. He was the beloved husband of Candace (Green) Sears with whom he shared the past 48 years of marriage.

He was born on January 16, 1951, in Lowell and was a son of the late Edward. D. Sears and the late Ruth (Goodhue Wilson) Sears. He was raised and educated in the Lowell area, graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1968.

Ed was a commercial fisherman out of Provincetown in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He had a long career working as a warehouseman at Purity Supreme, owned his own painting company and then was a delivery driver for Wonder Bread until his retirement after which he worked with his son, Adam painting for another 6-7 years, before finally-and happily-beginning his permanent retirement.

He was also a long standing member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 633. Along with his wife, he was a member of the former St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for much of their lives until the church closed.

Ed was a hard working man to his core, a value he instilled in his sons. He was loyal, loving and always put others first. An avid walker, he was well known as the “Highland Walker” and could be spotted walking daily for many years. He was an outdoorsman; he loved to fish and recently took up golf.

He also loved to travel, especially to Cape Cod. He cherished time spent gardening, reading and attending his grandchildren’s various sporting events. Being their “Grandpa” was one of his proudest accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Candace, he is survived by his 3 sons and their families, including his grandchildren: Adam Sears and his wife, Megan, and their children, Thomas, Emily, Anya, and Maeve of Westford, MA; Nathan Sears and his wife, Ashley, their daughter, Sadie and soon to be grandson of Pelham, NH and Jacob Sears and his wife, Erin, along with their children, Cameron and Kylie of Dunstable, MA. He is additionally survived by his sister, Evelyn Cox and her husband, Tom of Dracut and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Diane Greenwood. He will be greatly missed by not only his family but by the many friends and neighbors whose lives he touched.

In accordance with his wishes, his funeral will be held privately.
