James Leroy Benefiel Jr., 94, of Anderson passed away on November 4, 2024 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus Legacy Building following a brief illness.
He was born on September 6, 1930 in Anderson, IN to James Leroy Benefiel Sr. and Nellie (Skaggs) Benefiel. He was a very devoted son to his parents.
He stopped daily to check on them after he got off from work. He worked in assembly at Container Corporation for 30 plus years and retired in 1989. He also did lawn care and was a caddy at Anderson Country Club. He loved antiques and going to auction sales. He was a fan of both IU Basketball and Purdue Football. He enjoyed going to Central Wesleyan Church and Central Christian Church with his family.
He is survived by his three children, Jan (Mike) Damelio of Venice, FL, Rhonda K. Benefiel of Midwest City, OK, and Bruce A. (Renee) Benefiel of Pendleton; seven grandchildren, Joshua Kapfhamer, Heather Hernandez (Ryan Hayes), Shane Benefiel, Rachel Postlethwaite, Ridge Postlethwaite, Bailey (Zaye) Kindler, and Jordan Benefiel; 3 great-grandchildren, Blakely Benefiel, Brooks Benefiel, and Rosalie Hayes- Hernandez; a nephew, Mark (Lori) Bowman; and a former spouse, Vera Benefiel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia McCaslin and Georgia Bowman.
A private graveside will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.
