NORFOLK, CT – Susan B. Pratt, Ph.D., 69, died Wednesday, October 30, 2024 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Center, Worcester, with family at her side.
She leaves a son, Michael T. Pratt and his partner Emmie Ouellette of Webster, MA; 2 brothers, Stephen Pratt and his wife Nancy of Charlotte, NC, and Jeffrey Pratt and his wife Sandy of Martha’s Vineyard; a sister, Leslie Hall and her husband George Vargha of Rocky Mount, NC; nieces and nephews; and her beloved Kindred Spirits Community of Rowe, MA.
She was born on August 23, 1955 in New Britain and raised in Canton, CT, a daughter of Rodney G. and Hala C. (Humason) Pratt. She graduated from the Westledge School in Simsbury in 1973 and was awarded a Bachelor of Psychology Degree from Colorado State University in 1977. She then obtained a Master’s Degree from Central Connecticut University and later a Doctorate in Developmental Psychology from Boston College.
Dr. Pratt taught students with learning disabilities and worked in administration for 20 years at Curry College in Milton, MA and then for another 10 years at Salve Regina College in Newport, RI. She was currently an adjunct professor at Western Connecticut State University and was also involved in the student services department. She retired in February due to illness.
Besides writing and playing the guitar and the piano, she had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in choirs in the Church of Christ Congregational in Norfolk and previously at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown, RI. She also sang in the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra.
