STEEP FALLS - John Michael Giberson, age 74, passed away on November 4, 2024, at his home after a resolute battle with glioblastoma.
He was born in Bangor, Maine on July 7, 1950, a son of the late George and Mary (Kelley) Giberson. After graduating from Schenck High School in 1968, John attended the University of Southern Maine where he studied education. There he met the love of his life, Carolyn, and they married in 1973 after graduation. He was employed for 45 years by MSAD6. He began his career at the Jr. High as a teacher and coach and went on to teach high school math and served as Bonny Eagle’s Athletic Director for 12 years. Prior to retiring in 2012, he was the high school attendance coordinator. He was an Eagle Scout and member of Phi Mu Delta fraternity as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hiking and canoeing, taking many trips up Katahdin and on the Allagash throughout his life. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed exploring the United States and beyond with Carolyn and his family.
He is predeceased by his parents and a sister - Theresa Louise Giberson who passed away in 1971. John is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years - Carolyn (Mitchell) Giberson; his cherished children Katherine (Kate) Byers and her husband Adam of Libertyville, IL and James (Jim) Giberson and his wife Eliza of Yarmouth as well as his precious grandchildren Hailey, Audrey, Carter and Evelyn. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Giberson, Ella Theriault, Charlie Giberson, Barbara Waite and Margaret Fiske along with many other family members including sister- and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday Nov. 10th from 2 - 4 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday Nov. 11th at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Dora Lane, Limerick and a reception will follow. A private burial will take place at a later date.
