Obituary

Janul Vasili, 85, of Worcester, died on Monday, November 4th at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Sofika (Stathi) Vasili; a son, Ilia Vasili and his wife, Erlinda of Worcester; a daughter, Andoneta Qendraj and her husband, Edi of Albania; and four grandchildren, who he adored with all his heart, Eleftera, Adela, Pamela, and Tea.

He was born in Permet, Albania, the son of Thimjo and Lefta (Taska) Vasili and immigrated to the United States 13 years ago, bringing with him a rich cultural heritage, a deep love for his homeland, and a warm, welcoming spirit. Janul dedicated himself to the cultural landscape of the region, serving as the Director of Cultural Activities in Permet, Albania. In this role, Janul was instrumental in organizing events that celebrated diversity, fostering connections among people from all walks of life, and enhancing the cultural life of the community. His passion for bringing people together through art, music, and tradition made a lasting impact on countless individuals. Janul's love for soccer was well known, having played as a goalkeeper in his youth. His determination and team spirit carried over into his professional and personal life. Even in his later years, he enjoyed the thrill of the game and often watched matches on television. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Janul found great joy in fishing, a pastime that connected him to nature and offered him peace. He was also an avid listener of Albanian music, taking pride in sharing his musical culture with others. Above all, Janul was known for his kindness, his infectious smile, an ability to make anyone feel like a friend and always brightening the day of those around him.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8th starting at 12:00pm at St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street. A calling hour will be on Friday, November 8th from 11:00am until the start of the service in the church.
