Myrtle E. (MacNevin) Cataldo, a longtime resident of Medford, formerly of Malden, passed away at her home on Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Myrtle was born in Malden, daughter of the late Harry MacNevin and Gwendolyn Wheaton. She was the beloved wife of late Virgilio M. Cataldo for 49 years. She was the devoted mother of Michael Cataldo and his wife Carol of Stoneham, Diane Solesky and her husband Donald of Manchester, New Hampshire, Virginia “Ginny” Folger and her husband David of Medford, Antonette “Toni” Ridgley and her husband David of Auburn, New Hampshire and Caroline Ringler and her husband Barry of Walpole. She was also the loving grandmother of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Myrtle was predeceased in death by her loving sons, George E. and Joseph V. Cataldo, both of whom cherished their mom. They were the strength and support she needed after the passing of their dad.
As a young child, Myrtle’s love for dancing continued into her love for ballroom dancing with her late husband. All eyes would be on them as they danced together as if we were watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Myrtle worked as a Retail Cashier for many local department stores and eventually retired from Best Buy.
Some of her favorite hobbies that she enjoyed were bowling, reading and crocheting, especially blankets for her newborn grandchildren. She also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods Casino, with her son, Joey.
As the matriarch of our family, she was always there with a smile, a word of encouragement or what ever we needed. She will always hold a special place in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
Her Funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 10 AM.
