Jacqueline L. (Gill) Young, age 100, of Taunton, formerly of Norton, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Life Care Center of Raynham. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul L. Young, to whom she was wed for nearly seventy-one years at the time of his death on March 5, 2017.
Born in Warwick, Rhode Island on May 25, 1924, she was a loving daughter of the late John and Lora (Claflin) Gill.
Jackie grew up in Hyannis and was a 1942 graduate of Barnstable High School. She continued her education, graduating with an associate degree from the Sturdy Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and also took courses at Bristol Community College.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Young worked as a school nurse for twenty-four years for the Town of Norton Public Schools. She was formerly employed as an RN at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and as an occupational nurse at the former Metal & Controls in Attleboro.
Jackie had made her home in Taunton for the past twenty years and was a former longtime resident of the Chartley section of Norton. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton and treasured spending time with her adoring family. Jackie’s hobbies included reading, knitting, quilting and especially baking chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren’s birthdays.
She is survived by her devoted sons, John P. Young and his wife Lorna of North Dighton and Timothy P. Young and his wife Debra of Monument Beach. She was the dear sister of the late Betty Jane Bussiere. She is also survived by her cherished 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her services on Monday, November 18th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services on Monday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
In place of flowers, Jackie had requested that donations in her memory be made to Hope Health Hospice, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
