Kenneth “Ken” Glenwood Baizley Jr, 84, of Turner Maine returned to his Heavenly Father on October 17, 2024. Ken was born in Portland Maine to Arlene (Paradis) Baizley Seavey of North Stratford New Hampshire and Kenneth G. Baizley Sr. of Scarborough Maine. Ken graduated from Scarborough High School in 1960, remaining a resident until 1980. Since then Ken has called Turner his home and community.
Ken’s long work career started in his teens working on family farms in Scarborough Maine and Columbia New Hampshire. In his twenties Ken worked as an auto mechanic at Vails Texaco Gas Station in North Scarborough then as a heavy equipment mechanic at Cushman’s Bakery and B&M Baked Beans both in Portland. In his thirties Ken was a small business owner of an independent trucking firm, landscaping company, and operated the Albion Deering Dairy Farm in Gorham. Ken retired from his professional career as a licensed Boiler Operator-High Pressure and head building superintendent for the Sisters of Mercy at the St. Joseph’s Convent, The Motherhouse, in Portland. He continued farming with his son Michael, and Mike’s children, into his late 70’s. Always an active man, Ken continued to work part-time delivering auto parts for Autopart International in Lewiston until 2022.
Ken most enjoyed dancing with his beloved Beverly every Saturday night at the Silver Spur, getting people to smile and laugh with his amazing sense of humor and conversing with friends and strangers at the numerous diners he frequented. “You never know what you’ll learn from someone”, he would say. Ken was generous with his time, knowledge of many subjects and “yankee ingenuity”, always ready to help someone in need. Ken was also fond of horticulture and was known for his rose gardens in the Prout’s Neck neighborhood of Scarborough and the beautiful flower gardens at St. Joseph’s Convent. Ken found inner peace in theology and enjoyed sharing his strong belief in and love for Jesus with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, hiking through the woods and learning from nature.
Ken is predeceased by his mother Arlene and father Kenneth Sr., his second wife Doris Marie (Pendexer) Rowe Baizley, his son Michael A. Baizley and his beloved companion Beverly Harmon. Ken is survived by his first wife Sharon (Beecher) Coates and her husband William of Scarborough, son Robert M.
