BUXTON – Nancy McDonough, age 66, passed away on October 30, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Nancy was born in Portland, Maine on November 25, 1957, daughter of the late Richard & Sally Vaughan. She graduated from Portland High School, where she met the love of her life, John McDonough, Sr. For most of her career, Nancy worked at Troubh Heisler law firm where she formed lifelong friendships with colleagues that meant so much to her. Eventually, Nancy moved to Buxton with her beloved husband, John, where they started a life and family.
Nancy is survived by her husband John McDonough, Sr.; her children – John McDonough, Jr. and his wife Michelle McDonough of Gorham & Patrick McDonough & his fiancé Brittany Getch of Brunswick; siblings – David Vaughan (Bill), Betsy Heatley (Don), Richard Vaughan (Jan) & Deborah Vaughan; her two adored grandchildren – Keegan & Amelia McDonough, along with many other family members including sister & brother in laws, aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.
More than anything, Nancy cherished time spent with her family and friends. Whether it was watching her two boys grow up, cheering them on from the sidelines of their sporting events or watching football as a family on Sundays. In recent years, it was time spent with her grandkids - who were her light. Whether it was watching their games, gymnastics or swim classes, or just pushing them on the swings, her biggest joy was spending time with them. She lived for weekend getaways to Bethel, sister weekends in Boothbay, and escaping with family to Cape Cod. Nancy loved being by the water… walking the ocean beach listening to the waves, relaxing at Sebago Lake, or just having a cocktail by the pool with family. She was a rooted NY Giants fan, living in a Packers household. She enjoyed going on walks with family, rescuing animals big and small, girls nights with friends, and sipping a good strawberry margarita with oldies in the background.
Nancy was loved by all who knew her. She treated everyone like family, and was known for her incredible kindness, big heart, and always putting everyone’s needs above her own. We will always remember her smile and laugh that was so contagious, filled with so much love. She will be profoundly missed.
A graveside service will be held at the Highland Cemetery, Church Hill Road in Buxton on Friday, November 8th at 11am to honor Nancy and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation to help find a cure to the battle Nancy fought so hard to overcome, in hopes to someday help those who have yet to fight their battle. To donate: visit www.acpmp.org.
Hark now, hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly… Into the mystic.
