Mr. Brian P. Winters, Sr., a lifelong resident of Andover and beloved husband of Phyllis P. (Apitz) Winters, passed away at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence on Thursday, October 31, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on March 4, 1949, he was the beloved son of the late John and Lillian (Small) Winters. Brian grew up in Andover and was a graduate of the Andover Public school system, where he met his high school sweetheart, Phyllis and have been together since. They married at St. Augustine Church in Andover on June 3, 1969 while he was still serving in the US Army. Brian came home from his army post in Georgia on Monday and they were married on Tuesday. Together, they returned to Georgia. Following his service in Georgia, Brian and Phyllis came home to Andover, where they raised two children, Brian and Heidi.
Brian loved all cars and enjoyed buying and selling them. He always wished that he had kept several of them. Brian had several jobs that he always had fun doing. When he worked as a house painter, he would bring his family to use the pool in the yard where he was working. He was also a janitor at the St. Augustine School in Andover and worked as a bus driver. While working as a bus driver, Brian would take his children on field trips to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He also drove for Ethan Allen Furniture Barn in North Andover. He would take his kids on many other deliveries down to Boston, and on one such adventure to see the tall ships in the harbor.
A keen pool shark, Brian would love to spend time at the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence and would love to beat his uncle Pat.
A devout Catholic, Brian attended daily mass at St. Patrick Church in Lawrence. He also enjoyed fantasy football, watching the Patriots and hanging out with his “old man” friends. Brian also loved hitting the slopes in Colorado with his brother and his best friend, Sr. Kathleen.
Beside his beloved wife, Phyllis, Brian is survived by his loving children and daughter-in-law; Brian P., Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Winters of Edmond, Oklahoma and Heidi Levesque of Methuen, sister; Mary Ellen and her husband John Ottaviani of Haverhill, grandchildren; Aurora, Orion, Aiden and Jessica and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father-in-law of the late Keith Levesque and brother of the Susan Winters, John Winters and Beverly McAllister.
