Herbert F. Hawksley, age 93, of Mansfield, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his adoring family on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen P. (Allen) Hawksley. Mr. and Mrs. Hawksley were wed for fifty-seven years at the time of Helen’s death on September 26, 2012.
Born in Norfolk, MA on March 7, 1931, he was a loving son of the late Joseph W. and Carrie E. (Linscott) Hawksley.
Herb grew up in Norfolk and was a graduate of Walpole High School. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United Sates Army, honorably being discharged with the rank of Corporal. Following his marriage to Helen, the couple resided in Foxborough for seven years and began a family. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past sixty years.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Hawksley was a familiar face as an oil truck driver for many years at the former Kirley Fuel & Supply in Mansfield. He formerly worked at the Foxboro Co., where he also met and fell in love with his future wife.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, Herb was a humble man who loved the Lord, his family and his church. He enjoyed attending events at the Mansfield Council on Aging and his hobbies included cutting wood, puzzles and woodworking.
He is survived by his devoted children, John Hawksley of Texas, Gary Hawksley and his girlfriend Kat Crowley of Hyannis, Leon Hawksley and his girlfriend Susan Fleming of Martha’s Vineyard, Heather Valequett of Maine and her late husband James Valequett, Alan Hawksley and his wife Tobi of Maine, Heidi Eckhart and her husband Kent of Mansfield, Amy Howe and her husband Douglas of New Hampshire, Dean Hawksley and his wife Patty of West Bridgewater, Paul Hawksley and the late Cary Hawksley. He was the dear brother of Edward Hawksley of Florida, Marilee Gould of Norfolk and the late Madeleine. He is also survived by his many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, November 12th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street in Mansfield.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 10:00 A.M. at the Good Shepherd Reformed Episcopal Church, 6 Meadowhill Court in South Easton.
Burial, along with military honors will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
