Obituary

Katie O'Connor-West, 62, passed away Saturday October 12, 2024 at the University Of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She leaves her husband, Frank West, who she married on October 9, 2011 in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. She leaves her three brothers, Daniel, Donald and his wife, Sandra Eaton, and Paul; a sister-in-law, Martha; three nephews, Patrick and his wife, Maylen, Ryan and his girlfriend, Linda, and Zachary and his girlfriend, Alicia; five nieces, Patricia Vaillancourt and her husband, Brandon, Cassandra Alexandra and her husband, Rob, Kaitlyn and her boyfriend, Nick; and Heidi and her boyfriend, Jacob; many cousins including, Steve O’Connor; and extended family. In Katie’s heart, she had grandchildren, Aria, Levi, Elle, Rhodes, and Callen. She was predeceased by her brother, James O’Connor, Jr. and his wife, Wendy; and her beloved sister, Meg.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of James & Grace (Strozina) O’Connor. Katie, a vibrant force in life, career, and community, passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and joy. Armed with an MBA from Clark University, Katie’s career flourished with numerous achievements. She served as National Sales Director of Telecommunications for Black & Veatch, Major Account Director at Fairpoint Communications, and held impactful roles as External Affairs Director, Enterprise Account Manager, and Senior Account Manager for Verizon. Known for her professionalism, intelligence, and unwavering commitment, Katie made significant contributions in every role, building meaningful connections along the way.
Beyond her career, Katie’s passions brought joy to all who knew her. An avid ballroom dancer and music enthusiast, she found joy in the melodies of Tony Bennett and Marc Anthony, with salsa rhythms often filling her home. Known for her charm and conversational flair, she didn’t merely meet people; she created lasting connections, even turning strangers on the street into friends with her warm and lively spirit.
Katie’s talents extended to her garden, where she created beautiful yard displays year after year. She shared these moments with her beloved dog Dunkin, her constant companion on land and water. Together, they navigated the lake in her cherished boat, affectionately known as the “Water Witch of the West.” With Kathy at the helm, no shoreline was left unacknowledged, as she greeted everyone with a smile and a wave, spreading warmth and joy wherever she went.
Katie’s light touched many, and her memory will forever remain cherished in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and the beauty she brought into the world.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 3:30pm on Thursday, October 31 (Halloween) at the Auction Barn, 526 Drake Road in Bomoseen, Vermont.
Her funeral will be privately held on Wednesday, November 6th in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester.
