Norman James “Norm” Gray, 86, of Ventura, CA, passed away on October 27, 2024, in Ventura. Norm was born in Alhambra, CA to James and Mabel Gray on May 8, 1938. Because of his father’s employment with the Arabian American Oil Company, Norm grew up in Saudi Arabia, attending school in Dhahran until 1953. He then attended the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon, where he graduated in 1956.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami. After college, he embarked on a career as a commercial airline pilot, flying for several airlines.
After retirement, he enjoyed flying light aircraft and restoring and racing vintage race cars. He was involved with Quiet Birdmen and Bay Cities Racing Association.
Norm is survived by his wife, Betty Ann of Ventura; son Brian and his wife Lisa of Middleton, ID; son Kevin and his wife Lynnae of Ventura, CA and granddaughters Michaela, Hannah, Mabel and Molly; stepson Sean Rogers and his wife Kimberly of Somerset, KY; stepdaughter Stephanie Rogers and her husband Kevin Segall of Woodland Hills, CA; and step grandchildren Anna, Dylan and Eric.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabel, and by his first wife, Carol.
Funeral services will be held at BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA on November 23rd at 11:00 am. The Reverend Bruce Greenough of Community Presbyterian Church will preside.
