Obituary

Sherry (Harbarger) Finnegan, 61 of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024 after a length illness at Tufts Medical Center in Boston with her family by her side. She was the longtime companion of James Welch, whom she spent the last 28 years together.

She was born in Lowell on July 22, 1963 and was a daughter of the late John Hardy and Joanne (Gadourey) Hardy of Billerica. She was raised in Billerica, where she attended the area schools, graduating from Billerica High School with the Class of 1981. In her younger days, she also lived in Pennsylvania for a very brief period of time.

Sherry worked as a bookkeeper at Edgemark Contracting of Dracut for over 10 years, and prior to that she worked for National Grid for many years.

She loved entertaining friends and family, often hosting cookouts that brought everyone together. She enjoyed playing bingo with her neighbors and cherished every moment spent with her granddaughters, who were her absolute top priority.

In addition to her mother, Joanne Hardy of Billerica, she is survived by her companion, James Welch of Dracut, she is survived by her three sons, John ‘J.T.’ Finnegan of Dracut, Corey Welch of Somerville, MA and Christian Welch of Pepperell, MA; and her beloved granddaughters, Mia Lyn Phanuef of Dracut and Lilliana Lee Welch of Lowell.

She is also survived by her siblings, Sandra Hardy of Billerica, Darryl Harbarger of Billerica; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her daughter, the late Ashley Finnegan who passed away in 2013; and sister of the late Dana Harbarger.

On Saturday, November 2, 2024 all are welcome to attend her visitation from 9 -11:30 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. followed by procession for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
